The New Mexico Railrunners have reached another significant milestone with the completed installation of the Hephaestus Steel Mill complex! Spanning across multiple dedicated modules, this heavy industry complex brings dynamic switching operations, realistic slag dumps, highline ore trestles, and rolling mill facilities to our Albuquerque layout.
Over the past several months, our club members worked diligently on track alignment, installing Tortoise slow-motion switch machines, wiring DCC accessory decoders for remote turnout control from NCE wireless cabs, and adding realistic industrial weathering. The blast furnace and basic oxygen furnace feature custom LED interior glow effects simulating hot metal pours.
